Jorge De La Garza / Mexico City, 1978.

Works predominantly with the mediums of collage, installation and video; appropriating found fragments and grouping them into small archives he later uses to construct new, unresolved narratives. His work is influenced by ideas derived from disciplines such as iconography and semiology. In particular, the process behind the renewal and disruption of meaning. He is interested in Benjamin Buchloh’s ‘allegorical procedures’: strategies of “appropriation and depletion of meaning, fragmentation and dialectical juxtapositions of fragments and separation of signifier and signified”. Jorge’s interest though, isn’t only in destabilizing signs, but in redefining them; in exploring their subversive and poetic possibilities.
